Generally, I'm with you, 2-3 hours is perfect. However, sometimes, due to travel schedules, I'll need to spend a whole day at a museum. Examples: the Met, Winterthur, Colonial Williamsburg. I'm very intentional about breaking up the day. At Winterthur, for example, I took a guided tour, had an early lunch, walked in the gardens, visited the exhibits, had tea and a pastry, and visited the rest of the exhibits.
