Thanks for this very interesting topic. I'm always on the look out for MORE museums, historic sites, libraries etc. to visit and would be heartbroken if places start closing. It's very ignorant for people to think that the knowledge we have is all there is. As we find new information the history changes. To me it just makes history richer. It doesn't detract from the history we have, it just adds another layer. Every country is multi-dimensional with many different people and their stories. The sad thing is ignorance breeds fear, and fear is what drives this kind of behavior.
Thank you for making the case so well! As in so many areas, they are attacking and trying to change history to fit their view of the world. We MUST not let that happen.
Interesting about the institutional trust museums still have, but it makes sense. And it is one of the few types of institutions that still have any real purchase with people. But I don't think the Trump administration is attacking museums only to promote more "rah rah" or "sanitary" versins of history etc. That's a part of it yes, but I think it also gives them too much credit. This movement is simply a "burn it all down" movement. They don't really care what replaces things, they are too myopic to even think that far. They are just aimed at destruction. So it seems to me...
Myopic would be a good word to apply to them. And, yes, I'm sure "burn it all down" fits with their sad actions... along with other indeterminate things we probably haven't even thought of yet. <sigh>

Thank you, Tandi! I so appreciate your thoughtful words. And I so agree about multi-dimensionality!

Thank you, Jeanette! It’s a topic that’s been nagging at me, frustrating me, and upsetting me so I felt I had to speak up.
Well said! It’s so sad to see these attacks on museums.
